Level 1 course will focus on botanical and natural ingredients. It covers raw materials, a brief history of olfaction and the art of perfume making, note categories and the perfumer’s palette, evaluation notes and accords, fragrance analysis, fragrance briefing, and perfume creation.

THE SMOKING ROOM UNIVERSITY OF OLFACTION

The Smoking Room University of Olfaction is Brooklyn’s premier school of perfumery training. Our natural perfumery training employs the refinement and discipline of the French method of fragrance creation with the heart and soul of niche creativity. The curriculum is informed by 14 years of excellence in the art and creation of fragrance, evaluation, branding, sustainable practices, and aromatic healing. Le nez is a graduate of the renowned school of Art and Design at Pratt Institute. He has trained extensively with the chemists Dr. Howard and Debbie Freund, RN; Certified Aromatherapist of Scent and Sensibility. Mr. Hughes is a certified natural perfumer with the International Perfume Foundation. His traditional training is with the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, and Cinquième Sens (Pratt Institute) where he earned certifications in Natural Perfumery, Cosmetic Formulation and Advanced Perfumery. During his tenure at Ca Fleur Bon, he served as the contributing editor of natural perfume. Mr. Hughes has evaluated and critiqued many of the leading artisans, and has a vast knowledge of the most refined approaches to the art of olfaction. His fragrance artistry is featured in Allure, Essence, The NY Times Style Magazine and influencer blogs that celebrate the Art of Perfumery. Currently, he is the chief nose of Therapeutate Parfums where niche perfume is firmly grounded in the heritage of olfactory art while maintaining a modern approach to the creation of fine fragrances.
